3.1.15. Cam-shaft and support

Check of wear of cams

1. Uncover heads of cylinders.
2. Establish the piston of the 1st cylinder in VMT of a step of compression.
3. Check wear of cams on the 1st cylinder. For this purpose establish the indicator over the first yoke so that the leg of the indicator passed parallel to an axis of a bar and settled down directly over a bar.
4. Establish the indicator on a zero, turn the crankshaft in the direction of normal rotation. After indications will cease to change turn the crankshaft back to an arrow stop. The difference of indications is equal to the size of a cam.
5. Write down indications and again establish the piston of the 1st cylinder in VMT of a step of compression.
6. Rearrange the indicator on other yoke of the 1st cylinder and repeat measurements.
7. Repeat measurements for other cylinders according to an engine operating procedure (see subsection 3.1.1).
8. Compare results to the standard. If reduction of the size of a cam owing to wear exceeds norm, a cam-shaft replace.


1. Remove a cam-shaft and wash out. Check a condition of necks. If on necks there are wear tracks, are worn-out as well cam-shaft bearings. In this case it is necessary to replace a cam-shaft and bearings.
2. If necks in a satisfactory condition, check their diameter in several places, define a konusnost and ovality.
3. Check internal diameter of bearings of necks, define a gap and compare to the standard. If the gap exceeds norm, replace bearings (it is carried out in car-care center).
4. Check a condition of a gear wheel of a drive of the distributor of ignition. If there are signs of strong wear, a cam-shaft replace.
5. Check a condition of cams, existence on them of a vykrashivaniye, задиров and deep development. Check the sizes of cams a micrometer. If cams in a satisfactory condition and the size corresponds to norm, the cam-shaft can be used further.
